27 Weeks Pregnant

You are reaching the third and final trimester of your pregnancy. This time period is exciting, but also tiring, and sometimes very uncomfortable.

Be careful to restrict your physical activity during the home stretch--you will continue to gain weight which, along with fatigue, can conspire to make even everyday chores a challenge. Plenty of rest and a good diet, along with good judgement, will carry you and your baby through safely to the end.

That's not to say that you should stay in bed all day! It's ok to continue to go to work even all the way up to the very end of your pregnancy, but straining yourself physically, things like heavy lifting and and climbing stairs, and exposing yourself to mentally stressful tasks should be minimized, or at least done with an abundance of caution.

The baby is about 14 inches long by now. He or she is very active, too. Rapid eye movement (REM) is detectable and some doctors have theorized that your baby is beginning to dream!

Premature labor is a possiblity during the third trimester, although unlikely. Signs to watch for that should move you to contact your caregiver would be gushing, watery discharges from the vagina, severe cramps and contractions, and sudden swelling.
